[it probably took him a good few hours before he actually got up the nerve to light the candle, so it's fairly late in the evening, and he looks . . . stressed out, to say the least, sitting on his bed with his knees pulled up to his chest and just staring into the flame like holy shit what am I doing]

[so, he doesn't even say anything at first—just stares]

[there's no face on the other side, at least not immediately; so Shinji is treated to a sight that may or may not be very familiar to him. of course, this isn't the old Tokyo-3 apartment he used to live in, it appears to be some kind of... cabin? but its messy yet cozy state should be enough confirmation that he didn't get the wrong candle. ;D

he can also hear her voice approaching:]

—what? Oh! Just one second, I'm right here!

[grips the fabric over his knees tightly enough that his knuckles go white, heart leaping a little at that voice, both with familiarity and intense anxiety]

[he briefly considers running away, but stays, frozen]

[he leans back automatically, even though that's just as useless. he's not dressed like he's from any team, wearing a loose grey sweater over a dark blue shirt. he has a silver key with a little Amethyst charm on it, and there's a Turquoise pin and a Kunzite pin on his lapel. his hair is a little longer, and he looks a little older than she remembers, though perhaps not significantly]
